PBS-subsidised HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis from April 2018 to June 2020.

Key findings
  • In the three months to June 2020 the number of individuals initiating PBS subsided PrEP declined by 45%, due to COVID-19 and lockdown.
  • For the first time since PBS listing in April 2020, the number of individuals estimated to be taking PrEP declined during these three months.
  • Decline in initiation and usage were seen in all age groups, states and territories.
