The Advisory Committees act as review and advisory bodies for key operational and critical strategic research growth areas for the Kirby Institute. They include areas and initiatives that span the breadth of the Kirby Institute’s program and are led by senior researchers.

Our committees play a vital role in ensuring the ongoing strategic growth and development of the Kirby Institute.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, Research and Education Advisory Committee
The Kirby Institute has established an advisory committee in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, Research and Education to advise on the development, interpretation, implementation, and presentation of an enhanced strategic commitment regarding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led work within the Institute.
The Advisory Committee provides an opportunity for members to have input into projects through an exchange of ideas, also acting as a mechanism to support project outcomes effectively and appropriately with key stakeholders.
The Committee feeds back to the Kirby Institute’s Strategic Advisory Group and Executive Committee.

Clinical Trial Research Advisory Committee
The goals of the Clinical Research Advisory Committee are to align processes across the Institute that relate to the conduct of conducting ethical and best practice research across our populations of interest. Specifically, the Advisory Committee aims to streamline and optimise engagement both across the diversity of Kirby Institute programs, and with key UNSW stakeholders that are essential to the conduct of best clinical research practice including Legal, Insurance, and Research Ethics and Strategy Teams.

Education and Training Advisory Committee
The Education and Training Advisory Committee aims to provide and facilitate opportunities for Kirby Institute staff to engage in education and training. Our objective is to establish sustainable and quality education programs which build on the Kirby Institute’s unique areas of expertise. Our model aims to promote equitable access and foster educational collaborations and partnership.
Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Advisory Committee
The Kirby Institute’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee (KEDIC) is committed to the UNSW Faculty of Medicine and Health’s vision to provide a supportive and equitable workplace for all staff and students without discrimination.
The committee reinforces these values through developing and evaluating goals, strategies and targets aimed at achieving equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) at the Kirby Institute at with our collaborators, and identifying and suggesting solutions to any barriers or limitations which prevent the attainment of these goals, strategies and targets. The representative committee is a platform which enables staff and students to voice any concerns or complaints regarding EDI. Through Faculty and Institute-wide communication, the KEDIC reinforces shared values to support a culture of inclusiveness within the Kirby Institute.

Global Health Advisory Committee
The Global Health Advisory Committee is focused on enhancing synergies and collaboration in global health within and beyond the Kirby Institute. The Kirby Institute is engaged in impactful projects in global health in multiple partner countries and across diverse areas of need. The Global Health Advisory Committee ensures that planning and learnings are shared across these projects, to create better practice and ensure efficiencies.
Health Economics and Health Systems Advisory Committee
The overriding goal of this Advisory Committee is to enhance health system performance, improve health outcomes, and achieve greater value for public health resources. Our health economists and modellers work with clinicians, sociologists, statisticians, policy makers, health care managers and affected communities to improve how health care is delivered and financed in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. We are recognised for our expertise in: health care financing; impact evaluation; economic evaluation; health technology assessment; process evaluation; priority setting; equity analysis; and modelling. We actively support research translation through for example, submissions for public funding to the Medical Services Advisory and bespoke short courses and mentoring to funders and policy makers.

Higher Degree Research Advisory Committee
The Higher Degree Research (HDR) Advisory Committee oversees the Kirby Institute’s higher degree student enrolment and monitoring processes, and assists with developing Kirby Institute specific guidelines. It liaises with the UNSW HDC to ensure Kirby Institute processes are congruent with the University’s. It provides support for students throughout their candidature, guidance to students and supervisors on necessary training and administrative requirements, and support for the Kirby Institute Postgraduate Coordinators. It also organises annual performance reviews for each student to monitor progress, identify early any emergent problems, and advise on appropriate solutions.

Surveillance Advisory Committee
The Surveillance Advisory Committee combines the expertise and experience across the Kirby Institute, to coordinate and enhance relevant infectious disease surveillance work. The Surveillance Advisory Committee aims to encourage innovative approaches to surveillance and research, to address ongoing and emerging epidemics, and pertinent questions in relation to patterns of infectious diseases in Australia.
