The HPV Vaccination Partnership Project: Tasmanian Study and Workshop

This document summarises the factors reported to contribute to adolescents’ initiation and completion of the HPV vaccine in Tasmania between 2021 and 2022. It is the final component of Tasmania’s contribution to the NHMRC-funded, HPV Vaccination Partnership Program which involved Tasmania, New South Wales and Western Australia.
This collaboration aimed to identify facilitators and barriers to the effective delivery of the school-based HPV vaccination program in Tasmania. The findings were then shared with key vaccination stakeholders from across the state to inform strategies and recommendations to optimise HPV vaccine uptake in Tasmanian schools.

Key findings

Clear understanding of the school-based immunisation program and strong relationships among stakeholders were crucial for success.

Limited HPV knowledge and complex pre-vaccination information contributed to adolescent anxiety.

Parental and adolescent experiences influenced decision-making.

Workshop recommendations led to revised consent processes and improved resources for school-based vaccine delivery.
