Abstract

Phagocytic responses by effector cells to antibody and/or complement opsonised viruses have been recognised to play a key role in anti-viral immunity. In this study of 62 acute and convalescent patients, we found that an early phagocytic response significantly correlated with anti-Spike IgG titres.

Anurag Adhikari is currently working on the functional aspect of human adaptive immunity. He studies the polyclonal antibody effector functions to understand the protective and non-protective role of humoral immunity in viral infection. To better study this antibody-based immunity in hepatitis C virus and SARS-CoV-2 infection, he has developed an assay to measure the antibody-dependent cellular phagocytosis function, the induction of which correlates with the emergence of neutralising antibodies in these infections.
