John Zaunders is a Senior Scientist at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney, whose research encompasses the immunology of HIV and other infectious diseases, based on expertise in flow cytometry and immunological techniques. He has contributed pioneering work in human CD4 T cell subsets, including immunophenotyping of Tregs; study of CCR5+ CD4 T cells, especially activated CCR5+ viral antigen-specific CD4 T cells during acute infection and after vaccination; cytotoxic CD4 T lymphocytes in human viral infections; and the role of T follicular helper cells in human lymph nodes and gut associated lymphoid tissue, during chronic HIV infection, as well as after vaccination. Most recently, he has been involved in dissecting CD4 T cell responses to SARS-CoV-2 infection and to vaccination.
