Scientia Associate Professor Angela Kelly-Hanku Angela Kelly-Hanku is a Scientia Associate Professor in the Public Health Interventions Research Program at the Kirby Institute. She also heads the Sexual and Reproductive Health Unit at the Papua New Guinea Institute of Medical Research (PNGIMR). Recently returned to Australia as a result of COVID-19, Angela has been a long-term resident in Papua New Guinea since 2007. |
Abstract
In this seminar, Angela will present findings from over a decade of joint Papua New Guinea Institute of Medical Research (PNGIMR)/Kirby Institute research on HIV, sexual and reproductive health among key populations in PNG, with a particular focus on a recently completed integrated biobehavioural survey, known as Kauntim mi tu. This was the first biobehavioural survey in any setting to provide point-of-care testing and treatment for HIV, sexually transmissible infections and tuberculosis. She will discuss the context, rationale and policy impact of the survey, and its methodological innovations, within a reproductive health and rights perspective.
Building on the success of Kauntim mi tu, Angela will provide insights into how HIV care and prevention are being reenvisaged to promote equitable access among sex workers, men who have sex with men, and transgender women in PNG.
