Kirby Institute Seminar Series presents

Professor Zabrina Brumme

Professor Zabrina Brumme
Professor, Faculty of Health Sciences, Simon Fraser University and Lab Director, BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS (Canada)

Zabrina Brumme's research programme integrates molecular biology, epidemiology and computational approaches to study HIV genetic diversity and evolution with the goal of informing HIV vaccine and eradication strategies.

Abstract

To cure HIV, we will need to eliminate the reservoir of integrated, replication-competent proviruses that persist within infected cells despite suppressive antiretroviral therapy. To do this, we need to understand when these viral reservoirs form, how genetically diverse they are, and how long they can endure. Zabrina will share how their lab and others have combined molecular and phylogenetic techniques to understand the HIV reservoir.
