Kirby Institute Seminar Series presents

Professor Alan Perelson

Professor Alan Perelson

Senior Fellow, Theoretical Biology and Biophysics Group, Los Alamos National Laboratory, USA

About your speaker

Alan Perelson is a Senior Fellow at Alamos National Laboratory. His research focuses on developing models of the immune system and infectious diseases, such as HIV and HCV. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Abstract

Alan will summarize work done on modeling the treatment of hepatitis C (HCV) first with type 1 interferon and then with direct-acting antivirals.

He will highlight the input and successes of modeling in understanding the mode of action of anti-HCV drugs, the need for combination therapy, and the determination of the duration of treatment needed for successful clinical trials.
