The Kirby Institute is pleased to present:

Professor Basil Donovan -Head of the Sexual Health Program, Kirby Institute

"Evaluating the Australian HPV vaccination program."

Abstract:
Australia leads the world in the speed of implementation of its quadrivalent human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination program.  The program began with schoolgirls and young women in 2007, and was the first to offer free vaccination to schoolboys from 2013. Decades from now the vaccination program should result in dramatic declines in HPV-related anogenital and oropharyngeal cancers.  In the meantime, the impact of the vaccination program can be evaluated through measuring its population coverage; monitoring for adverse events; determining effects on HPV prevalence; and surveillance of short- to medium-term HPV-related morbidity such as genital warts, recurrent respiratory papillomatosis, and precancerous lesions.  This seminar will review how the vaccination program has been evaluated and summarise the (exciting) findings to date.
