The Kirby Institute is pleased to present:

Associate Professor Golo Ahlenstiel Storr Liver Centre- Westmead Hospital

“Zinc and IFN-lambda…Out with the old and in with the new?

Abstract:
Lambda interferons play a well-established key role in susceptibility to and pathogenesis of hepatitis C virus infection. Our recent data shows that the impact of lambda interferons extends beyond HCV to other chronic inflammatory conditions and that Zinc may play a key role in this context

Biography:
Golo Ahlenstiel is a clinician-scientist and hepatologist at Storr Liver Centre at Westmead Hospital and Westmead Millennium Institute with a strong interest in liver immunology and immunogenetics. His research has a strong translational focus centered around understanding how immunogenetics influence immune response to viral hepatitis and influence response to antiviral therapy. Through a better understanding of the role of the immune system and immunogenetics in liver disease, he strives to find new treatments and develop better strategies to prevent disease progression in chronic liver disease.
