The Kirby Institute Postgraduate Student Prize is an annual award given to the most significant first author paper by a Kirby Institute student, published in the previous calendar year in a peer-reviewed journal in the area of infectious diseases.
The session will be chaired by Associate Professor Gail Matthews.
Dr Martinello will be presenting her paper "Acute HCV: How short can we go?".

Dr Marianne Martinello is an Infectious Diseases Physician and Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Viral Hepatitis Clinical Research Program, Kirby Institute.
Abstract
With direct-acting antiviral (DAA) therapy for 8–12 weeks established as the standard-of-care for most people with chronic hepatitis C (HCV), the optimal management of acute and recent HCV is under evaluation. Whether acute HCV will continue to offer a unique therapeutic advantage over chronic HCV in regard to shorter DAA duration, as was the case with interferon-based treatment, is the subject of ongoing clinical trials. Enhanced screening, diagnosis and management of acute and recent HCV will be required if we are to reduce HCV incidence and achieve WHO HCV elimination targets.
