About your speaker
Sofia Bartlett recently completed her PhD with the Kirby Institute's Viral Hepatitis Clinical Research Program on recently acquired hepatitis C virus infection in Australia. Her research is multidisciplinary, utilising molecular biology laboratory techniques, phylogenetics and clinical epidemiology to study several elements of hepatitis C virus infection, such as transmission patterns, drug resistance and diagnostics.
Abstract
Sofia will present an overview of the work that contributed to her recently completed PhD thesis. Her thesis aimed to identify transmission patterns among people with recent HCV infection in Australia. This included evaluation of factors associated with phylogenetic clustering; reconstructing transmission networks to model the effect of targeted HCV treatment; identification of multi-risk profiles associated with phylogenetic clustering of HCV; and identifying and evaluating methods for the detection of DAA resistance. Sofia hates scientific jargon and will try to avoid it as much as possible while explaining these phylogenetic studies.
