Dr Orazio Vittorio

Dr Orazio Vittorio
Scientia Senior Lecturer, School of Women's and Children's Health, UNSW Sydney

Dr Orazio Vittorio is Scientia Senior Lecturer at the School of Women's and Children's Health UNSW, NHMRC CDF and Team Leader at the Children’s Cancer Institute. His recent investigations are focused on understanding the role of copper (Cu) metabolism/homeostasis in cancer. Dr Vittorio's leadership in his field of research is evidenced by >80 peer-reviewed papers, 6 book chapters, 4 patents, and invitations as keynote speaker in several conferences.

Abstract

Checkpoint antibodies blocking PD1/PD-L1 signaling have improved clinical outcomes in cancer. However, this strategy has not been successful for neuroblastoma. We provided the first evidence of the role of copper in modulating PD-L1 expression and immune-evasion in neuroblastoma. This raises the potential of repurposing copper chelators to enhance antitumour immunity.
