About your speaker
Dr Lise Lafferty is a Research Fellow with a co-appointment at the Centre for Social Research in Health and the Kirby Institute. Her research primarily focuses on prisoner health, hepatitis C, people who inject drugs, and Aboriginal health. Dr Lafferty has conducted over 100 qualitative interviews with men and women in prison and has facilitated focus groups with ex-offenders in the community.
Abstract
Conducting qualitative research in the prison setting includes navigating overt and subtle issues, requiring the researcher to effectively manage complex relationships while building trust and rapport – with prisoner participants and prison officers. This seminar will focus on the ethics processes, relationships, access, and safety when conducting qualitative research in prisons.
