About your speaker
Dr Bridget Pratt is a bioethics researcher in the Nossal Institute for Global Health and Centre for Health Equity at the School of Population and Global Health at the University of Melbourne. She is Associate Faculty in the Dept. of International Health at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Her work focuses on the ethics of global health research and health systems research, with a focus on social justice and global health justice.
Abstract
Health systems research ethics is a relatively new and emerging field. Bridget will present work performed as part of her recently completed NHMRC Early Career Fellowship: Linking health systems research to global health equity. She will first introduce the ethical framework that she has developed, which provides guidance on what research populations and questions ought to be selected, what research capacity strengthening ought to be performed, and what post-study benefits ought to be provided in order to link health systems research projects in low and middle-income countries to improved health systems for the disadvantaged and marginalised. She will then discuss the framework’s implications for health systems researchers and funders. This will include a look at DFAT’s recent Stronger Systems for Health Security Call for Research.
