About your speaker
Dr Brendan Jacka has been with the Viral Hepatitis Clinical Research Program since 2009 as a research assistant, postgraduate student, and laboratory coordinator. With a background in laboratory diagnostic, Brendan combines phylogenetic analysis with epidemiological methods to examine transmission of hepatitis C virus in at-risk populations. Brendan also patterns of drug use at the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre, UNSW Sydney.
Abstract
Latent class analysis identifies unobservable subgroups within a population based on available data. This analysis could be used to understand complex behaviour patterns and variables that predict high-risk behaviour, and to identify the subgroups that are most at-risk. With this information, scientists can develop interventions that target the neediest individuals. Brendan will provide examples of latent class analysis in the area of substance misuse and infectious disease.
