About your speaker
Mr Morris Mukasa Kizito is the Founder and Director of Mission After Custody (MAC), an organisation that assists prisoners prior to, and upon release, back to the community. MAC aims to increase support and awareness of prisoner rights and improve prisoner skills to assist with community integration post-release. Mr Mukasa is also the Chairperson of the International Prison Chaplains Association, Uganda chapter and is a member of many committees that support this vulnerable population including the Uganda Discharged Prisoners Aid Society, and a Facilitator of Dialogue on Humanity Worldwide.
Abstract
This presentation will provide an overview of Uganda’s experiences in prisoner re-integration and crime prevention, specifically through the model of community policing. The next stages in the trans-national crime prevention project will also be discussed, including the cross-cultural sharing of knowledge gained within Uganda and how this might be adopted by other countries. The second half of the presentation will focus on addressing the gaps between policy makers, program implementers and the affected communities in regards to crime prevention.
