Dr. Merghati has 18 years of experience in research, education and clinical practice in the fields of Women’s Health, Sexual Health, Sexual Risk Behaviours, and Addiction. Those experiences include qualitative and quantitative studies, systematic reviews, curriculum and learning module development as well as counselling and therapy. Dr. Merghati’s main interests are in the fields of community-based health service research and Gender-specific/culturally-sensitive intervention implementation, and she has been the Principal Investigator of several national studies on sexual health promotion and risky behaviours such as drug abuse, the most important one was a large Mixed Method study conducted with at/high risk women (sex workers) on treatment for Substance use disorders in 2015. She has recently started a large Mixed method study on “Evaluation of the Integrative culturally sensitive HIV/STIs/BBV Prevention program (IHSBPP) in the marginalized at risk population mainly Sex worker and MSMs. She has served in few national level positions namely the director of the Family and Sexual Health Division in the Neuroscience Institution at Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS), as well as the director of Sexual Health Division In the Iranian National Center for Addiction Studies (INCAS). She has been an external consultant of the Team for "Health Services for women with Risky Sexual Behaviours, and commercial sex workers" in the HIV/AIDS office in Ministry of Health, she is member of the “National Working Group for health service targeting people with disabilities” in the Brain & Spinal Cord Injury Research Center (BASIR), Neuroscience Institution at TUMS. Dr. Merghati had been a consultant and educator for gender-specific programs implemented in the Middle Eastern region countries and member of several advisory committees targeting sexual health, gender issues and SUDs. She also has been consultant for a UNODC project in “evaluation of group therapy in people with SUDs”.
