Catherine O’Conner

Conjoint Associate Professor, Sexual Health Program

My first research collaboration with the Kirby Institute was the Australian HIV Observation Database which commenced in 1998 and is continuing to this day. I have had a conjoint appointment with the Kirby since 2010 and I work from the Kirby most Fridays.

One of the most rewarding projects I’ve worked on is ACCESS (a Sexual Health Network project). The project collects de-identified data on visits to sexual health clinics throughout Australia. We have learned lots of interesting and important things about STI in Australia from this project.

For me it’s a great place to work; away from day-to-day frontline clinical care to reflect and have time to think. I am particularly grateful to Basil Donavan and the people at the sexual health program for their support.
