“The Hanoi MSM Cohort Study (HIM-Hanoi)”
Abstract
In collaboration with colleagues at Hanoi Medical University, the Hanoi MSM Cohort Study (HIM-Hanoi) is the first study to prospectively follow men who have sex with men in Vietnam. Funded by the US Centers for Disease Control, HIM-Hanoi consists of four sub-studies:
In collaboration with colleagues at Hanoi Medical University, the Hanoi MSM Cohort Study (HIM-Hanoi) is the first study to prospectively follow men who have sex with men in Vietnam. Funded by the US Centers for Disease Control, HIM-Hanoi consists of four sub-studies:
1. Qualitative exploration of barriers to ART access and uptake among HIV positive MSM;
2. Baseline survey to estimate prevalence and risk factors for HIV, HCV, and STI and determine eligibility for the two cohorts;
3. Prospective cohort of HIV negative MSM to estimate incidence and determinants of HIV, HCV and STI and;
4. Prospective cohort of HIV positive MSM to identify predictors of ART uptake and retention in care. This presentation will describe the study protocol and report preliminary data.
Bio
Professor Lisa Maher AM heads the Viral Hepatitis Epidemiology and Prevention Program at the Kirby Institute. She has extensive experience in research, surveillance, program development and service delivery with key populations, including drug users and sex workers in North America, South East Asia, Australia and the Pacific. Her research focuses on the prevention of infectious disease in vulnerable populations.
