Abstract:
This presentation will report on the findings of research that has examined the experiences of 31 Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal inmates undertaking prison based alcohol and other drug (AoD) treatment. This work is the first qualitative research of its kind in Australia whereby inmates undertaking treatment were interviewed. This work includes a systematic review of international peer reviewed literature published between 1995 and 2015 reporting on prison based AoD treatment.
Bio:
Michael is an early career Aboriginal researcher in the alcohol and drug field with a particular interest in prisoner health. He has worked in Aboriginal health service provision, policy and research for over 18 years. Michael was the first Aboriginal person to graduate with a Master of Public Health from the University of Western Australia and is in the final year of his PhD at the Kirby Institute, UNSW Australia.
