The Kirby Institute is pleased to present:

Dr Angie Pinto -  PhD Student, Immunovirology and Pathogensis Program- The Kirby Institute

"What can we learn from primary HIV infection in NSW?"

Abstract:
Primary HIV infection has been recognised as a critical time from both an individual and public health perspective. Immunological events that occur at this time can form the basis for long term health outcomes in people living with HIV. As a result, patients presenting with primary HIV have been the focus of several clinical studies conducted at the Kirby Institute. This presentation will discuss some of the long term health outcomes in a  cohort spanning three decades, and discuss the public health aspects of primary HIV infection.

Bio:
Angie is trained as an infectious diseases physician and clinical microbiologist. Her PhD project at the Kirby Institute investigates several aspects of primary HIV infection including long term health outcomes, transmitted drug resistance and drivers of transmission. She also divides her time as an honorary clinical trials research fellow at St Vincent's hospital, and as a Staff Specialist at Royal Prince Alfred hospital.
