Kirby Institute is pleased to present:
Amit Achhra - “Risk, risk factors and management strategies of CVD and CKD in HIV: recent developments."
Abstract:
Cardiovascular and chronic kidney disease (CVD and CKD) are one of the major long-term health concerns in HIV-positive individuals. Recent clinical research in the area has focused on gaining better understanding of the risk in this population, identifying novel risk factors, biomarkers and management strategies. In this talk, I will summarise my recent work on these topics, including some soon to be published work from D:A:D and START studies. In addition, I will briefly highlight key relevant papers from the literature and discuss future directions.
Biography :
Amit Achhra is a post-doctoral fellow with Biostatistics and Database program of the Kirby Institute. He completed his PhD on the ‘markers of serious long-term outcomes in HIV-positive individuals’ in 2012, analysing data from several large observational studies. He has since continued to investigate clinical epidemiology of serious non-AIDS diseases. In addition, he is the project manager and biostatistician of the large implementation research study on ‘test and treat’ strategies, being setup in Indonesia.
